Camp Counselor/Crew Leader for Summer 2018
LOCATION: Crex Meadows Youth Conservation Camp, Grantsburg, WI
WHO WE ARE: Northwest Wisconsin CEP is a non-profit employment and training company that facilitates both state and private programs in Wisconsin. Crex Meadows Youth Conservation Camp is a service CEP offers to high school youth interested in gaining work experience in an outdoor setting. We partner with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to provide valuable work and educational experiences during two week sessions each summer. Evenings and weekends are spent doing educational and recreational activities.
WHY WORK AT CREX: Located on 30,000 acres of state wildlife refuge land, Crex Meadows Conservation Camp is a unique opportunity to experience the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Camp Counselors are responsible for the supervision of 20 high-school aged youth in a residential summer camp. Counselors serve as mentors for campers in educational, social, and personal matters and assist in maintaining camp operation while respecting the camp’s goals and objectives.
They are also responsible for supervising evening and weekend recreation activities. Counselors teach positive work ethics and skills to youth as they work alongside them Monday-Friday on conservation related projects. Examples of such projects include trail brushing, habitat restoration, invasive species eradication and other community improvement projects. Counselors are also required to lead and assist in the development and instruction of environmentally focused or basic skill-development classes throughout the summer.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must possess a valid drivers license and a clear record of any
major offenses. Applicants should either possess or be working on a Bachelors degree in a related field. A strong desire to work with and mentor youth is required and the ability to perform physically demanding work in varied outdoor conditions is required. Certification in the following: Wilderness Advanced First Aid or Wilderness First Responder, Lifeguarding and CPR is preferred, but may be provided.
COMMITMENT: June 4th – August 4th, 2018 includes staff training and 4 two-week sessions
SCHEDULE: Counselors work full, five day shifts including rotating evening shifts in the bunkhouses
WAGE: $450.00/wk for 9 weeks plus room and board
